WILMINGTON, Ohio—April 22, 2015—HealthFirst for Clinton County recently awarded $88,000 in grants to Clinton County organizations for projects and initiatives that promote the health and well-being of the area.
Board members voted to donate $50,000 to Wilmington Parks and Recreation for a proposed skate/splash park; $25,000 to United Way of Clinton County; $3,000 to the Clinton County Fellows Program; and $10,000 to a new community diabetes education program being done in collaboration with the Clinton County Health Department.
HealthFirst, formerly the CMH Foundation, has assets of $3.8 million. Funds are part of the Clinton County Foundation’s assets of $8+ million and are held in the trust department of Peoples Bank in Wilmington.
HealthFirst supports the social service, pharmaceutical and transportation needs of area residents with documented need for assistance identified and screened by area social workers and case managers. Funds are distributed directly to area pharmacies, transportation companies, durable medical equipment suppliers and other agencies on behalf of these uninsured and underinsured individuals.
HealthFirst also funds the Patient Medication Assistance Program (PMAP) in a collaboration with the Clinton County Commissioners and the Clinton County Health Department. PMAP assists area residents in applying for free and/or reduced cost medications from pharmaceutical companies.
The program, which is coordinated with a referring physician, is located in the Clinton County Annex, 111 S. Nelson Ave., Suite 10, Wilmington. It is open from 8 a.m. to noon Monday through Wednesday. The phone number is 937.481.2138.
HealthFirst has also supported other community initiatives such as the Guard Care health fair at Southern State Community College in 2014 as well as building improvements and programming at the Clinton County Family YMCA.
HealthFirst is also taking the lead to conduct a comprehensive community health needs assessment sometime this year.
